A New Chapter in Leadership

Gascoynes is excited to share some big news— the successful completion of a management buy-in! This sees Ashley MacDonald, Mark Thurston, and Thomas Buckley-Smith, each with 20 years of experience at the firm, joining the current owner and managing director Chris Reeve as equal shareholders. Hear from Chris Reeve below about what this means for Gascoynes.

This new management buy-in is an exciting new chapter in Gascoynes’ history. It will help us stay as an independent accountancy firm and grow the business even further.

“There has been lots of recent acquisitions of accountancy firms and so to be able to remain truly independent is something I’m really proud of.

“Over the past 20 years Ashley, Mark and Tom have helped grow Gascoynes and build the strong reputation that we have today. Their combined experience and dedication make them the perfect team to lead us into the future.

“This change will allow us to continue to improve efficiencies and grow from offices in Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Wymondham as we continue to expand our coverage to across East Anglia. Our vision is to be the largest independent accountancy firm in the region!

“Gascoynes has really changed since I joined in 1991 as a trainee. When I joined the firm was owned by Barry Gascoyne and we had one small office in Bury St Edmunds. I knew from the moment I joined that one day I wanted to take over the business and run my own accountancy firm. Once I qualified in 1996, I worked hard to get involved in the running of the business, becoming a Director and Shareholder in 2009. My ambition became a reality when in 2013 I completed a management buyout of Barry Gascoyne’s shares.

“Since then, we’ve completed eight acquisitions and opened offices in Ipswich, Stowmarket and Wymondham.

“Ashley, Mark and Tom all joined as trainees and have all worked hard to work their way up in the company. When I took over, they were key members of the management team and in 2020, they all became Directors. Now with the management buy-in they will continue to build our legacy as equal shareholders of the company.

“Day-to-day you won’t see any changes to the company – I’m not ready to stop working yet! But in time, I’m hoping to take more time for myself and do a bit more travelling in the future.

“A big congratulations to Ashley, Mark and Tom. As a team, we’re excited for what’s ahead and look forward to continuing this journey with our clients and community.”
