Joseph’s apprenticeship journey

Hear from Joseph Herbert, who joined us as an Accounts Apprentice in December 2025, as he shares his experience of apprenticeship life so far.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

“I chose an apprenticeship because it gave me the opportunity to gain practical experience while working towards a professional qualification. After researching different career routes and speaking to people already working in the industry, I felt an apprenticeship was the best path for me. It offers a valuable head start into my career. ”

Joseph’s apprenticeship journey

How have you found it so far?

“I have thoroughly enjoyed the apprenticeship so far, particularly getting to know the team and understanding how my role contributes to Gascoynes’ wider goals. Since starting my ACCA training, I’ve also found the exam and study procedures to be very supportive. ”

What have you learnt so far?

I’ve learnt a huge amount so far. Before joining Gascoynes I worked in an industry roleso I was keen to see how I could apply my previous experience while also developing new skills. I’ve gained expertise using various cloud-based software packages, including QuickBooks and Silverfin, which have been instrumental in my role supporting Client Managers with the preparation of accounts. ”

Would you recommend an apprenticeship to someone else?

“I would highly recommend an apprenticeship to anyone considering a career in accountancy. It provides a fantastic route to gaining both qualifications and practical experience. Being able to immediately apply what I learn to my work has also played an important part in my development.”
