As a leading estate agency around Bury St Edmunds and surrounding villages, 2025 has seen an exciting transformation for All Homes and new owner Jake Gathercole following his acquisition of the business back in March

All Homes’ unique position combines almost a quarter of a decade of local market expertise along with Jake’s experience in senior management positions at a couple of the UK’s national estate agency businesses.

Jake first reached out to Gascoynes following a recommendation at a golf day event he attended. “I needed to find an accountant who could help with me with all aspects of buying a business and when I asked someone on the golf day, they suggested I speak to Gascoynes.”

It was at this point that Jake met with Thomas Buckley-Smith who was able to help and guide through the first stages of the process including a business valuation but also ensuring the holding and limited companies were set up as well as the due diligence which goes into buying a business.

Two things stand out for Jake in how Gascoynes supported him – a clear process along with how accessible they were. Like many new business owners, knowing what needed to be done and in what order is where Jake needed guidance. “They just made things easy and laid it out to me in a way which was clear and easy to understand. I wasn’t setting up a business from scratch so all of this had to happen in a way that meant business could continue as usual with the acquisition all taking place in the background.”

The range of services Gascoynes provide to Jake include the day to day accountancy of book-keeping, payroll as well as VAT and taxation advice but also building a solid foundation for Jake which included advice on how to structure the business as well as the change of ownership and share allocations. Plus, getting everything in place with the future in mind rather than needing to change as the business grew.

This level of client care has extended to bespoke reporting and helping Jake get up and running with digital accounting tools so he can manage aspects of the business on the go via his mobile phone rather than when he is in the office.

“In previous roles, I was used to working from P&L’s and Thomas was able to set this all up for me so I could clearly see all the numbers broken down. Gascoynes adapted to how I wanted to work and not vice versa. That is hugely of value to me.”
